Irimi-nage
* 1. Form (相半身片手取り)Ai-hanmi Katate-dori ("mutual stance hand grab")
- Start with Left Hanmi.  Uke comes forward to grab your left wrist with Uke's left hand
- turn your left palm up as you step forward with right foot to the right and slightly behind the Uke,
  turn your hips so that you are facing the same direction as the Uke (your left foot is now forward),
  place your right hand on the right side of Uke's neck {and bring Uke's head to your left shoulder}
- swing your left arms and legs (and the Uke) behind as you turn your hips (you turn 180 degrees)
  (your left arm should be kept horizontal as it sweeps a great horizontal circle to the left, chest open,
   and brought down lower at the end to throw the Uke off-balance)
- wait for the Uke to move all the way to your left side
  then raise your left arm as you lower your right hand holding Uke's right shoulder (by the neck)
  and step through under the Uke with your left foot (Irimi-nage)
* 2. Form (逆半身片手取り)Gyaku-hanmi Katate-dori ("inverse stance hand grab")
- Start with Right Hanmi
- offer your right hand out, Uke moves forward to grab your right wrist with Uke's left hand
- turn your right hand (thumb) in to your Center so that it can escape the Uke's grab
  as you "cut" with your left hand between Uke's left hand grab and your right wrist
  (your right wrist should be free of the Uke's grab at this point)
- continue cutting through out with your left hand in a great horizontal circle to your left
  slide your right foot forward to the right and behind the Uke
  as your right hand grabs the Uke's neck on the right shoulder side
- the rest is similar to 1. Form above
* 3. Form (肩取り面打ち)Kata-dori Men-uchi ("shoulder-grab front strike")

- proceed as in 1. Form
* 4. Form (胸取り)Muna-dori ("chest grab")
- Start with Right Hanmi, right foot forward, but chest facing Uke
  (offer your chest collar by grabbing the lower collar with your right hand)
- the Uke moves forward with his left hand/foot forward to grab your chest collar
- before the Uke can grab, step to the right side of the Uke, and
  push Uke's left arm with both hands, both arms stretched out, your left hand on Uke's left elbow
- place your right hand on Uke's right shoulder/neck from behind,
  your left hand/foot drawing an ark behind you

9. Form (Morote-dori, or "both-hand grab") Tachi-waza (standing form) Kokyu-ho Ura, static stretch
* Meister Asai's school seems to call 9. Form as "Katate-Ryote-dori" ("single-hand both-hand grab")
- Start in Left Hanmi (left foot and left hand forward, left Tegatana ("hand blade") forward)
- Uke's left arm meets your left arm;
  Uke swings left arm in a left-half circle and catches your left wrist with Uke's right hand;
  Uke's two hands now grab your left wrist/forearm, with all 3 hands positioned low
  (at this point, palm of your left hand is facing out to the left)
- initiate a Tenkan: slide a small step forward with your left foot to the left side of Uke
  bring your left hand down under your Center, turn your hand in so your palm is facing right
- complete the Tenkan:  turn your hips so now your right foot is forward (180 degree turn),
  then swing your right foot behind, your left foot now forward,
  (at this point your are side-by-side with the Uke)
  as you bring both your hands to a low position in front of you, palms facing forward
  [the Uke must not let go of her hands; leave no space between palm of Uke's hand and Tori's arm]
- curl your hands, then arms, up
  as you step behind with your left foot and turn your hip 90 degrees (you are now facing the Uke)
  then sweep your left arm out and side to your left, causing the Uke to bend backward
  (your left arm should be above your Uke, your right hand at Uke's lower torso)
- continue stretching your Uke in this position for a moment
  [the Uke turns her torso so that she doesn't have to bend her back too far back;
  her Center is facing towards the Tori's Center]

(2)諸手取り・立ち技呼吸法・裏(エルケ)
9. Form (Morote-dori) Tachi-waza (standing form) Kokyu-ho Ura, static stretch
- Start in Right Hanmi (right foot and hand forward, right Tegatana forward)
- Uke's right arm meets your right arm;
  Uke swings right arm in a right-half circle and catches your right wrist with Uke's left hand;

  (at this point, palm of your right hand is facing out to the right)
- initiate a Tenkan: slide a small step forward with your right foot to the right side of Uke,
  bring your right hand down under your Center, turn your arm in so your palm is facing left
- complete the Tenkan: turn your hip so now your left foot is forward (180 degree turn),
  then swing your left foot behind, your right foot now forward,
  (at this point your are side-by-side with the Uke)
  as you bring both your hands to a low position in front of you, palms facing forward
  [the Uke must not let go of her hands; leave no space between palm of Uke's hand and Tori's arm]
- curl your hands, then arms, up
  as you step behind with your right foot and turn your hip 90 degrees (you are now facing the Uke)
  then sweep your right arm out and side to your right, causing the Uke to bend backward
  (your right arm should be above your Uke, your left hand at Uke's lower torso)
- your Uke falls backwards and takes a backward roll (Kokyu-ho Tachi-waza)

(3)諸手取り・立ち技呼吸法・裏、静止状態から投げ(コニー・幼い顔のでっかい男子)
9. Form (Morote-dori) Tachi-waza (standing form) Kokyu-ho Ura, static throw
- Start in Left Hanmi (left foot and left hand forward, left Tegatana ("hand blade") forward)
- Uke's left arm meets your left arm;
  Uke swings left arm in a left-half circle and catches your left wrist with Uke's right hand;
  Uke's two hands now grab your left wrist/forearm, with all 3 hands positioned low
  (at this point, palm of your left hand is facing out to the left)
- from your hips (through your left arm) move the Uke towards you
  {turn your left arm so your palm faces the right}
  as your Uke loses balance, continue directly to the arm sweep (your left arm above Uke's body),
  as you slide your left foot behind the Uke (Uke takes a back roll)

(4)諸手取り・呼吸投げ・裏、二種(ペレ)
9. Form (Morote-dori) Tachi-waza (standing form) Kokyu-nage Ura, two variations
- Variation #1 (static):

- Uke's right arm meets your right arm;
  Uke swings right arm in a right-half circle and catches your right wrist with Uke's left hand;
  Uke's two hands now grab your right wrist/forearm, with all 3 hands positioned low

03Sep2015 Martin Navarro

(1)逆半身片手取り・隅落とし・表・静止状態から(赤毛のジェニー)
2. Form (Gyaku-hanmi Katate-dori) Sumi-otoshi ("corner drop") Omote, static
- Start with Left Hanmi (left foot forward)
- Uke grabs your left hand with Uke's right hand ("Gyaku-hanmi Katate-dori")

  as you stretch your left arm out slightly to the left
  (take out Uke's balance by taking Uke's right hand slightly behind himself, as in Tenchi-nage)
- grab/roll/push your right hand over the inside of Uke's right arm
  (your right hand holds Uke's upper right forearm just below Uke's elbow)
  as you simultaneously step your right foot forward, between your left hand and Uke's right foot
* The movement is that of the "earth" half of Tenchi-nage ("Heaven and Earth throw"),
  where the Uke's right elbow is headed toward the third tripod point (the other two is Uke's two feet)

(2)逆半身片手取り・隅落とし・表(のっぽミヒャイル)
2. Form (Gyaku-hanmi Katate-dori) Sumi-otoshi ("corner drop") Omote

(3)逆半身片手取り・四方投げ・表、転換から(眼鏡のシュテファン)
2. Form (Gyaku-hanmi Katate-dori) Shiho-nage ("four-direction throw") Omote, Tenkan entry
- Start with Right Hanmi
offer your right hand to the Uke, palms facing down
- as the Uke moves forward and grabs your right hand with his left hand,
  do a Tenkan
  (step forward with your left foot, turn hip so right foot is forward as you swing right foot behind),
  always keep the Uke in front of you as you swing/lead the Uke,
  as you "cut" Uke's neck-to-chest diagonally with your left hand, body upright, left arm stretched out
  (at this point the direction of you and Uke have swapped)
- grab the Uke's left wrist with your left (this grab performs the final Shiho-nage)
  turn your left wrist so the thumb points down and stretch your left arm out to the left
  as you step through under Uke's left arm with your right leg (this makes it "Omote")
- turn hips so that now your left foot is forward
  (your arms should be comfortably stretched out in front of you throughout)
  as the Uke's left arm folds such that the Uke's hand is at the Uke's left shoulder
- Keeping your arms stretched, slide your left foot forward and throw your Uke down (Shiho-nage)

(4)逆半身片手取り・四方投げ・表、入り身から(青目白髪オットー・パウル)
2. Form (Gyaku-hanmi Katate-dori) Shiho-nage ("four-direction throw") Omote, direct Irimi entry
- Start with Left Hanmi
- let the Uke grab your left hand with his right (static entry)

  (both arms should be comfortably stretched)
- turn your hips so that now your right foot is forward
  (the Uke's right arm should go past above your head)
  as the Uke's right arm folds such that the Uke's hand is Uke's right shoulder
  (your arms should be comfortably stretched out in front of you throughout)
- keeping your arms stretched, slide your right foot forward and throw your Uke down (Shiho-nage)
* As Uke:  Gentle!  No sudden movements.  Naturally flowing movements when grabbing the hand.
* As Tori:  Move your own movements.  Don't worry about the Uke's grab, etc.

(5)胸取り・四方投げ・表(のっぽオラフ)
4. Form (Muna-dori, or "chest grab") Shiho-nage Omote
- Start with Right Hanmi
- as the Uke steps his left foot forward and reaches out with left hand to grab your chest,
  step your left foot forward and to the left of your Uke (keep an arms-length distance with the Uke)
  as you push Uke's outstretched left arm perpendicularly with both hands (stretch your arms out)
- swing your arms down and to the left as your left hand grabs the Uke's left wrist
- step through under Uke's left arm with your right foot (this makes it Omote)
- turn your hips so that now your left foot is forward
  as the Uke's left arm folds such that the Uke's hand is at Uke's left shoulder
  (your arm should be comfortably stretched out in front of you throughout)

- bring yourself to Left Hanmi (left foot forward)
  while bringing both your arms down (and hence Uke's grab) under your Center
  your arms stretched and wrists directly below your shoulder (left wrist should be somewhat lower)
- with your outstretched arms, place your right hand above the left-Uke's grab; grab his right wrist
- proceed with the usual Shiho-nage Omote:
  swing your arms to the right while keeping your arms stretched,
  step through under both Uke's (four!) arms with your left foot
  then turn your hips so that now your right foot is forward
  (both Uke's still have a grip on your wrists)
  slide your right foot forward and throw your Ukes down (Shiho-nage)

刀剣 Sword

  Basic sword handling:

  素振り Suburi  ("plain swing") Stand in half-stance (Hanmi), bring the sword up (hands near your forehead, sword tilted back ~<45 degrees), then swing the sword down to a horizontal position (tip is pointing slightly up) (cut down through to your opponent's navel, don't stop at their head), the sword should stay still the moment you swing the sword fully down, your feet stays in place.

   右半身 Right Hanmi Half stance, right foot forward and pointing straight ahead left foot behind and at ~45 degree angle a relatively wide stance (wider stance than Ikkyo-undo) for the Suburi, right knee slightly bent (right hand grip is above that of the left, some space between allowed)

   左半身 Left Hanmi Half stance, left foot forward and pointing straight ahead
   right foot behind and at ~45 degree angle a relatively wide stance for the Suburi, left knee slightly bent (the grip on the sword is the same as above--right hand above left)

  四方切り Shiho-giri  (four-direction cut) If starting from Right Hanmi, small step forward with front (right) foot as you swing the sword down [North], (your left hind foot may follow), lift the sword as you do a Tenkan (turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet), small step forward with front (left) foot as you swing the sword down [South], (your right hind foot may follow), lift your sword as you step 90 degrees to your right with your right foot and swing the sword down [West], (your left hind foot may follow), lift the sword as you do a Tenkan (turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet), small step forward with front (left) foot as you swing the sword down [East] (your right hind foot may follow). Repeat with [South, North, East, West], then [North, South, West, East], etc. 八方切り Happo-giri  (eight-direction cut) Should be similar as above, although not sure when/where the 45 degrees comes in. either [N, S, W, E, NW, SE, SW, NE] or [N, S, NW, SE, W, E, SW, NE]

  The Shiho-nage variants of the sword handling: Imagine two sword wielding attackers, one in front and one behind you. This can be thought of as the variation of the regular Shiho-nage techniques.

  相半身片手取り・表・四方投げ Ai-hanmi Katatedori, Omote, Shiho-nage There are two sword wielding attackers, one in front and one behind you. If starting with Right Hanmi, as the two attackers lift their swords simultaneously, take a small step with your right foot slightly to the right of the line of attack as you cut your front opponent with a sideways (L to R and upwards) strike, then do a Irimi Tenkan (small step forward with Left foot, then turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet), (your opponents would have swung down their swords to where you used to be) and swing your sword down onto the forearm or head of the rear opponent. The sizes of your steps should be small to strike your opponent at the right distance.

  相半身片手取り・裏・四方投げ Ai-hanmi Katatedori, Ura, Shiho-nage There are two sword wielding attackers, one in front and one behind you. If starting with Right Hanmi, as the attackers lift their swords simultaneously, do a Irimi: a small step forward with your left foot slightly to the left of the line of attack, then a Tenkan: and turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet as you cut the rear opponent with a sideways (L to R and upwards) strike, then do another Irimi Tenkan (step with left foot, then turn 180+ degrees without lifting your feet) (your opponents would have swung down their swords to where you used to be) and swing your sword down onto the forearm or head of the front opponent. The sizes of your steps should be small to strike your opponent at the right distance.

  逆半身片手取り・表・四方投げ Gyaku-hanmi Katatedori, Omote, Shiho-nage There are two sword wielding attackers, one in front and one behind you. If starting with Right Hanmi, as the two attackers lift their swords simultaneously, take a small step with your right foot slightly to the right of the line of attack then step forward with your left foot to the left of the line of attack as you cut your front opponent with a sideways (R to L and upwards) strike, then do a Irimi Tenkan (step forward with your right foot and turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet)   (your opponents would have swung down their swords to where you used to be) as you swing your sword down onto the forearm or head of the rear opponent. The sizes of your steps should be small to strike your opponent at the right distance.

  逆半身片手取り・裏・四方投げ Gyaku-hanmi Katatedori, Ura, Shiho-nage There are two sword wielding attackers, one in front and one behind you. If starting with Right Hanmi, as the two attackers lift their swords simultaneously, do a Tenkan (turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet) then make a small step forward with your left foot to the left of the line of attack as you cut your rear opponent with a sideways (R to L and upwards) strike, then do a Irimi Tenkan (take a small step with your right foot forward and turn 180 degrees without lifting your feet) as you swing your sword down onto the forearm or head of the rear opponent.
  The sizes of your steps should be small to strike your opponent at the right distance.

04.08.2015 (Tue)  9:30-12:00, 15:00-17:30
Fourth day:

抑え技(固め技) Pinning Techniques
  一教(腕抑え) Ikkyou  (holding down the arm)
  二教(小手回し) Nikyou  (turning of the hand)
  三教(小手ひねり) Sankyou  (twisting of the hand)
  四教(手首抑え) Yonkyou  (pressure point on the forearm)
  (肩取り面打ち)

投げ技 Throwing Techniques
  入り身投げ Irimi-nage

  四方投げ  Shiho-nage
  小手返し  Kote gaeshi
  (肩取り面打ち)

Two Variations
  表(入り身)正面に出る動き
  Omote (Irimi)  --- movements that step out to the front
  裏(転換) 後ろへ回る動き
  Ura (Tenkan)   --- movements that turns to the back

Initial Stance
  片手取り [逆片手取り]
  Katate-dori  [Gyaku Katate-dori]   (wrist grab: Uke's left hand grabs your right wrist)
  In Germany, with Meister Asai, this is called the "Zweite Form" (the second form).

  肩取り面打ち
  Kata-dori Men-uchi   (shoulder grab + head strike:
  the Uke's left hand grabs your right shoulder,
  you raise your right hand straight to your opponent's face as if a sword, and
  the Uke's right arm comes up in response)
  In Germany, with Meister Asai, this is called the "Dritte Form" (the third form).

刀剣 Sword

  Basic sword handling:
  素振り  Suburi  (cut/swing)
   右足前半身 Half stance, right foot forward  (right hand grip is above that of the left)
   左足前半身 Half stance, left foot forward  (the grip on the sword is the same as above)
  四方切り Shiho-giri  (four-direction cut)
  八方切り Happo-giri  (eight-direction cut)

  The variants of the sword swing/maneuvering can be thought of as the variation of the regular techniques:
  相半身片手取り・表・四方投げ Aihanmi Katatedori, Omote, Shiho-nage
  相半身片手取り・裏・四方投げ Aihanmi Katatedori, Ura, Shiho-nage
  逆片手取り・表・四方投げ Gyaku Katatedori, Omote, Shiho-nage
  逆片手取り・裏・四方投げ Gyaku Katatedori, Ura, Shiho-nage
  Imagine two attackers; one on your front, and the other directly behind you.
  In both initial stances, the Omote cuts the person in front of you, then behind you.
  In both initial stances, the Ura (back) cuts the person behind you, then in front of you.
  For all cases, the movements are the same as Shiho-nage, except that you're wielding a sword.

        Ai-hanmi Katate-dori  (cross grab: Uke's right hand grabs your right wrist)
  In Germany, with Meister Asai, this is called the "Erste Form" (the first form).
  This form can be thought of as the static form of Shomen-uchi (正面打ち), as the following moves are similar.

  片手取り [逆片手取り]
  Katate-dori  [Gyaku Katate-dori]   (wrist grab: Uke's left hand grabs your right wrist)
  In Germany, with Meister Asai, this is called the "Zweite Form" (the second form).
  Gyaku Katate-dori (逆片手取り)is a terminology for differentiation with the Ai-hanmi Katate-dori.

  This is the more common "static" beginning.

Initial Stance
  相半身 片手取り
        Ai-hanmi Katate-dori  (cross grab: Uke's right hand grabs your right wrist)

(1)
相半身 片手取り・四方投げ・表・右
Aihanmi Katate-dori Shiho-nage Omote, right

- Offer your right hand to your Uke like a handshake, right foot forward
- Your Uke comes forward and grabs your right wrist
- Turn palm of right hand down as you do a Tenkan
  (turn your hips so your left foot is forward, then step your left foot backward,
   always keep your Uke in front of you, should feel like you are leading/swinging the Uke)
  cut sideways out to your right with your right hand (grab Uke's right wrist with your right hand)
  as your left hand grabs the Uke's hand (both of your hands now hold your Uke's right hand),
- Step through under Uke's right arm with your left leg (this makes it "Omote")
- Bring your hands to your forehead (or in front of it),
  Do a Tenkan (turn hips so now your right leg is forward),
  continue turning to the right with your hip
  (fold the Uke's right arm onto his shoulder)
  and slide forward your right foot and swing your hands down as if cutting with a sword
  (the Uke takes a fall with Shiho-nage).

(2)
相半身 片手取り・入り身投げ・表・右
Aihanmi Katate-dori Irimi-nage Omote, right

- Offer your right hand to your Uke like a handshake
- Turn your right palm up and step your left foot forward behind the Uke,
  as the Uke comes forward to grab your wrist
  (your left fist can possibly jab the Uke's right rib as you pass each other by)
- Place your left hand on the back of the Uke's neck,
  (you should be behind the Uke at this point,
   the Uke's head possibly on your left shoulder)
- Step your right foot behind to do a Tenkan,
  (keep your Uke under your control)
  swing your right hand out and down and lead your Uke all the way around to your right,
  (drop your Uke down, off balance)
  now swing your right hand up,
  (trap the Uke's chin between your right upper arm and your left hand that is behind the Uke's neck)
  and step your right foot forward as you bring your right arm forward
  (the Uke takes a fall with Irimi-nage).

(3)
相半身 片手取り・小手返し・表・右
Aihanmi Katate-dori Kote-gaeshi Omote, right

- Offer your right hand to your Uke like a handshake
- As the Uke comes forward to grab your right wrist,
  step forward with your left foot as your left hand grabs the Uke's right wrist from above
  (your right hand leads the Uke forward as you do so
   turn your right palm up to escape the Uke's grab)
- Step backwards with your right foot and almost go down on your right knee,
  bring your left arm straight and down while still grabbing the Uke's right wrist
  (which brings the Uke's right hand forward, down, and brings the Uke off balance)
- Step forward with your right foot and turn back by stepping your left foot behind you,
  while your right hand pushes the back of the Uke's right hand down while at the low position
  (the Uke takes a Kote-gaeshi, and is on the ground, facing up)
- Grab your Uke's inner right elbow with your right hand
  (the left hand is still holding Uke's right wrist)
  step forward and around your Uke's head while keeping the Uke's right wrist near the ground
  (the Uke's right arm should be framed around the Uke's head,
   as you move to the other side of the Uke, the Uke will flip and face downwards)
- Kneel down, then sit in Seiza, so that your knees are on both sides of the Uke's right shoulder
  hold the Uke's right wrist in your left elbow, your left palm and Uke's right palm both facing up
  (use your right hand to put the Uke's right wrist and palm in place, if necessary)
  bring the Uke's right elbow to your stomach with your right forearm, your right palm facing up
  and lean in with your torso towards your Uke's head
  (the Uke's right arm is pinned).

(4)
相半身 片手取り・外回転投げ・表・右
Aihanmi Katate-dori Soto Kaiten-nage Omote, right

- Offer your right hand to your Uke like a handshake
- As the Uke comes forward to grab your right wrist,
  step forward with your left foot behind the Uke
  lead the Uke forward with your right hand
  your left hand comes from above the Uke's right arm and brings the Uke's right arm down
  (the motion is like that of cutting downwards with your left arm,
   your right hand is free)
- Your left hand continues to swing back up while grabbing the Uke's right arm from below
  (the Uke's right arm is now higher than the Uke's head)
  your free right hand holds the Uke's head down
  (your right arm should be near your body and holding the Uke's head straight down)
- Push the Uke's right arm through with your left arm over Uke's back
  (the Uke takes a forward roll from the Kaiten-nage).
